MJ was in a ‘Never Never Land of drugs’

London: Michael Jackson lived in a “pharmacological Never Never Land” having easy access to an array of prescription drugs, an expert told jurors during Dr Conrad Murray’s trial.
“We are in pharmacological Never Never Land here. Something that’s only been done to Michael Jackson,” the Daily Express quoted Dr Steven Shafer, an expert on Propofol, as saying during the trial.
In the 80 days before the star’s death, the court heard that Murray ordered more than four gallons of Propofol, enough to inject Jackson with 1,937mg a day – the amount used in major operations. The LA coroner ruled that Jackson died from acute Propofol intoxication, with influence from sedatives. On the day of his death he was given the surgical anaesthetic – referred to as “milk” – by Murray. Jackson was also given diazepam (Valium), lorazepam (Ativan) and midazolam (Versed) over 10 hours during the night and morning before his death. “This cocktail was a recipe for disaster,” sleep expert Dr Nader Kamanger told the jurors.
