AR Rahman’s ‘Hosanna’ faces legal threats

Close on the heels of acclaimed writer Salman Rushdie’s controversial exclusion from Jaipur Literary Festival, it’s now turn of music maestro AR Rahman to face the heat.

Zeenews Bureau
Mumbai: Close on the heels of acclaimed writer Salman Rushdie’s controversial exclusion from Jaipur Literary Festival, it’s now turn of music maestro AR Rahman to face the heat.
Reportedly, Rahman’s latest hit number ‘Hosanna’ from the film ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ has run into troubled waters. Even as the track seems to grow in popularity with each passing day, the Christian Secular Forum (CSF) in Mumbai has objected to the use of the word ‘Hosanna’. They claim the word to be a sacred term used only within prayer songs among Christians and Jews. The forum said that using the term in such a derogatory fashion has hurt the sentiments of Christians and Jews and therefore, a public apology and eliminating the word from the song, should be in order. Further, the CSF plans to move to court against Fox Star Studios and Sony Music and file a police complaint against those concerned. The producers of ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ were unavailable for comment. For the uninitiated, ‘Hosanna’ is a Hebrew word meaning please save or save now.
