Mumbai: Jiah Khan was depressed after having been rejected at an audition in Hyderabad, according to the actress’ mother Rabiya Amin. She wanted to pursue a career in interior designing as she wasn't happy with the way her film career graph was taking a plunge.
Friends of the actor have also hinted that she might have been troubled by her dull love life.
Jiah Khan committed suicide at her Juhu residence on Monday night. Jiah's mother and sister had gone out and she was alone at the house when the incident happened, police said.
She was found hanging at her flat in Sagar Sangeet Building in the posh Juhu area of northwest Mumbai around midnight. The cause of the suicide is not yet clear, police said, adding that autopsy reports were awaited.
"Jiah's mother and sister found her hanging when they returned at around 11 PM," police said, adding that Jiah used her own dupatta to hang herself.
Police are questioning her domestic help, security persons and neighbours to ascertain what could have triggered the extreme step.
News of her death was first reported by actress Dia Mirza through a social networking site at around 1.45 am.
Jiah made her acting debut in the controversial Ram Gopal Varma's 'Nishabd' where she acted opposite Amitabh Bachchan. Upon its release in March 2007, the film received mixed reviews, but Jiah was noted for her confidence, attitude, and sex appeal.
She also got a Filmfare Best Debutant Nomination.
She then appeared alongside Aamir Khan in AR Murugadoss's 'Ghajini', the Hindi remake of the director's own Tamil film of the same name.
Later, she appeared as a supporting actress in Sajid Khan's multi-starrer comedy film 'Housefull' (2010). This was her last film.
