Martin`s `Pink Panther` character inspired by `Tom and Jerry`

Los Angeles, Feb 13: Steve Martin`s character in the Pink Panther is inspired by none other than the cat and mouse cartoon caper "Tom and Jerry". The movie`s director Harald Zwart said that he was inspired by the famous cat and mouse duo while inking the character of the buffoonish constable, Inspector Clouseau for the comedy, reported Los Angeles Times.

"I`m inspired by `Tom and Jerry` and cartoons like that. I`m inspired by the timing and the brutality," Zwart said. Zwart also revealed that the 63-year-old Martin did all but a few of his own stunts, as the dim-witted policeman who was first played by British actor Peter Sellers in the original 1963 film. "When he walks across the room, balancing on a globe, then goes through a chandelier, you just see it on a surveillance monitor, that`s all Steve Martin doing that," said the director. Bureau Report
