NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha on Monday passed the interim budget amid walk-out by Congress, NCP and Left MPs.

The Finance Bill, 2019 has been passed by the Lower House of Parliament by a voice vote.

Earlier, while replying to debate on Interim Budget, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal slammed the Congress, saying that the party is betraying the nation by opposing government policies for the poor and farmers.

Goyal said that several initiatives have been taken by Modi government in the past four-and-half years in order to provide benefits to poor, farmers and middle class and the 2019-20 Interim Budget was only a continuation of that, PTI reported.

The Finance Minister also talked about the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi under which the government has announced to provide financial assistance worth Rs 6,000 to small farmers every year.

Taking a dig at Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Goyal said that those living in palaces will never understand the importance of Rs 2,000 every four months and this is the reason why they are against this initiative.

"This government has changed the working style followed by the Congress. We are moving towards an honest system," he said. Goyal remarked that harsh steps will be taken against fake companies but the honest companies will receive all necessary support from the government.
