New Delhi: In a shocking case of apathy, the body of a newborn girl was on Monday recovered from a bio-waste truck outside a private hospital here.

The body was meant to be preserved in the mortuary of Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in west Delhi`s Janakpuri, but the same was dumped in a bio-waste truck.

While the Delhi government has ordered a probe into the case, a post-mortem will be conducted today.
"The culprit will not be spared. It is complete nonsense. It is against humanity and I have ordered an inquiry in the matter," Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said yesterday.

The police said the infant, who was born on Sunday at Khanna Nursing Home, was brought to the hospital by her parents after her condition deteriorated.
"The girl died at around 2 am today after which doctors asked the parents to collect the body in the morning," a police official said yesterday.

However, the girl`s parents could not find the body in the mortuary. After a thorough search, the body was spotted lying inside the bio-waste truck, which was about to leave the hospital premises after collecting garbage.

The parents accused the hospital authorities of carelessness.

"Our child passed away around 2 am on Monday and then the hospital authorities asked us to pay an amount of Rs 1,500 to preserve the body at the mortuary. Despite giving the money the body ended up in a garbage truck," said a family member.

The police is investigating how the infant`s body reached the trash bin of the hospital. The CCTV footages of the hospital are being scanned for this purpose, police said.
