Orientation programme for Delhi MLAs on Aug 25-26

Delhi Assembly will hold a two-day-long orientation programme for MLAs at the Delhi Secretariat aiming at making the legislators aware of house proceeding and enriching the quality of matter and questions raised by them.

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly will hold a two-day-long orientation programme for MLAs at the Delhi Secretariat aiming at making the legislators aware of house proceeding and enriching the quality of matter and questions raised by them.

The event to held on August 25 and August 26, will be inaugurated by Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan, during which the social media accounts of the Assembly will also be launched.

"I wanted to hold a workshop programme for MLAs for long. The workshop aims at making MLAs aware of assembly proceeding and enriching the quality of matter and questions raised by the MLAs.

"We approached Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and she agreed to join us. During two-day-long workshop eminent political leaders and area experts will share their experiences with the MLAs," Speaker Delhi Assembly Ram Niwas Goel said.

According to the official, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury will hold the first session on legislature and committees. This will be followed by sessions by former Member of Parliament and former secretary (revenue) N K Singh on legislature and budget and by Member of Parliament Bhartruhari Mahtab on questions and other legislative tool.

"Government has taken various initiative to digitalise the paper work. So, Deputy Chief Minister will also give a presentation on digitalisation process of Member of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development Scheme (MLALADS).

"Through this MLA will not have to give request of work on their letter head but all requests and approvals will be done online. Department of Urban Development has taken this initiative," Goel said.

Official said that opening session on the second day will be taken by senior congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar on how to be an effective legislator. BJP Darjeeling MP S S Ahluwalia will talk about legislature-privileges and ethics.

Session on role of legislature and media will be taken by N Ram, chairman, The Hindu Group and Harish Khare, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune.

In order to publicise the work of Delhi Assembly and increase its connect with the people of the city, Manish Sisodia will launch the Twitter account, while Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta will launch the Assembly's Facebook account.
