Egg freezing can help women become pregnant after 40

New Delhi: An exclusive medical technology
-- egg freezing -- is now giving a ray of hope to women
seeking motherhood after the age of 40.

Studies have shown that the chances of women getting
pregnant after the age of 40 are less especially with one`s
own eggs.

"Egg freezing is a breakthrough technology where eggs
from a female are extracted and frozen and preserved to be
brought to use when she finally decides to enter motherhood,"
Dr Hrishikesh Pai, gynaecologist and infertility specialist,
Fortis La Femme said.

Claiming that the technology is being taken up in the
country for the first time, Pai said, "Preserving their eggs
early will not compel them to depend on donated eggs later in
life and they can sincerely concentrate on their personal and
professional priorities."
Pai, however, cautioned, "Anybody interested can consider
preserving their eggs till the age of 35 to 37. Not beyond
that."

Professionals like lawyers and doctors, mainly
career-oriented women who wish to extend their family after a
certain age have started preserving their eggs with us, he
said, adding that the technology has remained exclusive to
cancer patients so far, he said.
