New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday condemned the attack on an army convoy in Manipur, which left 18 jawans dead, saying that the party will stand firmly by the families of the martyrs.

"It was a dastardly attack in Manipur yesterday. Even the words fail to express the views that we have for this kind of cowardly act. We are extremely pained that we have lost 18 jawans in this attack. The BJP stands with families of martyrs in all times to come. We pray for their souls to rest in peace. The government at the Centre is a strong one and all possible steps would be taken," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.

At least 18 Army men were killed and 11 injured after unidentified militants ambushed an army convoy of the 6 Dogra Regiment in Manipur's Chandel District.

According to reports, the convoy was on its way to Imphal from Motul on a road opening patrol as part of their daily routine, about 80 kilometres from Imphal.

The ambush occurred at around 8.30 am when the convoy reached a place between Paralong and Charong villages.
