Subramanian Swamy wants Assam Accord amended for bringing in B'desh clause

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday sought an amendment to the Assam Accord for bringing in a clause for punitive measures against Bangladesh if the neighbouring nation does not stop alleged infiltration.

Guwahati: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday sought an amendment to the Assam Accord for bringing in a clause for punitive measures against Bangladesh if the neighbouring nation does not stop alleged infiltration.

"The Assam Accord should be amended and upgraded as there is no clause of punitive measures against Bangladesh. India should claim land from Bangladesh proportionate to number of infiltrators coming from there," he said.

Asked what step the government is taking as BJP had promised during the Lok Sabha election campaigns that all illegal migrants would be deported back once its government was formed, Swamy told reporters here, "The party never gave any time frame to deport them."

He said that borders cannot be sealed completely and "even the US is not able to stop Mexican immigration".
