Srinagar: Hopes of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir have been rekindled once again.
The indications came after Governor NN Vohra postponed the presentation of the state Budget on Tuesday.
The development came a day after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in Parliament that the Central government was prepared to go an extra mile for the state. He also sought to assure everyone on equitable development of all three regions in Jammu and Kashmir.
While it was officially stated that the Governor did not present the Budget at a special meeting of the State Administrative Council as he was not well, sources said Vohra took a cue from Jaitley's remarks and decided to delay the presentation of the Budget, apparently with the hope that it will be unveiled by an elected government.
The state has been under President's Rule since the demise of then PDP president and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 this year.
Coalition partners the PDP, now led by Sayeed's daughter Mehbooba Mufti, and the BJP have not been able to agree on government formation since then.
However, Jaitley's remarks in Parliament on Monday have revived hopes in Jammu and Kashmir, which also made Mehbooba to fly to New Delhi on Tuesday.
"We want to implement the Rs 80,000 crore economic package of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for equitable development of the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir," Jaitley told Parliament on Monday.
