Mumbai: Chitra Bedi, the judge of the special
CBI court here who was hearing the fake stamp-paper scam cases
involving Abdul Karim Telgi, has been transferred to Nagpur as
a family court judge.

Bedi handed over the charge yesterday to the Principal
Judge of Sessions Court here and would join in Nagpur within
a week, the court sources said here today.

Reportedly, Bedi was to be transferred to Nagpur on June
6, but the transfer order came early, they said.
Three cases heard by Bedi, in which Telgi is a prime
accused, have been reserved for verdict. Two other cases have
been part-heard by her.

She had been hearing fake stamp-paper scam cases since
February 28, 2008.
Defence lawyer, I P Bagadia, expressed surprise at the
the sudden and early transfer, saying that pronouncement of
judgement in Telgi cases would now be delayed. He said some of
the accused were thinking of filing a petition in the High
Court challenging Bedi`s transfer, on this ground.
