Mumbai Congress on Sunday organised fund raising drives at 20 places in the city for Nepal earthquake victims.

Mumbai: Mumbai Congress on Sunday organised fund raising drives at 20 places in the city for Nepal earthquake victims.

Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) chief Sanjay Nirupam told PTI that he participated in the drive at Lokhandwala, Kandivali among other places.

"There has been good response from Mulund, Ghatkopar, Malabar Hill, Juhu as well as south central Mumbai," he said.

Nirupam said the Congress leaders and office bearers have also made their own contributions apart from collecting funds from citizens.

"All former MLAs and MPs from Mumbai will donate their one month's pension while MLAs and corporators from the city will give their month's salary for the quake relief.Similarly, office bearers of MRCC have contributed Rs 10,000 each for this cause," he added.

"Many people were willing to donate clothes. But we are focusing only on money. As per reports received, there will be necessity of blankets and medicines and we are planning to collect the same," Nirupam said.

"I will discuss with All India Congress Committee (AICC) on how to send the relief material to the needy people in quake-hit Nepal," the MRCC chief added.

The death toll in Nepal's devastating earthquake today jumped to 7,056 with another 14,227 people injured.
