Newly married couple attempts suicide, woman dies in Thane

A newly married woman died after she and her husband allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in Kalyan area of Thane, police said today.

Thane: A newly married woman died after she and her husband allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in Kalyan area of Thane, police said today.

The couple, both aged 19 and hailed from Bhabua in Bihar, consumed some poisonous tablets, Kolsewadi police station's senior inspector Kalyanji Gete said.

 A police patrolling team yesterday spotted the couple lying unconscious in Netivali hills area and rushed them to hospital, he said.

 The victim, Chandini Singh, was declared brought dead by doctors last night, while the man, identified as Pradeep Sharma, is being treated at Rukminibai hospital, he said.

 The body has been sent for postmortem.

  The family members of the couple were apparently against their marriage following which the duo came to Thane and was staying with some relatives in Dombivili.

 A case of accidental death has been registered, police said adding that further probe was on.
