Bangalore: The dissidence-hit ruling BJP in
Karnataka on Monday held its legislature party meeting to resolve
differences and debate ways to boost its image, which has
taken a beating in recent days.

The legislators met at a private resort on the city
outskirts, where MPs, MLAs and MLCs, besides members of B S
Yeddyurappa ministry discussed causes for the recent revolt
and corrective measures to be adopted.

"All of them expressed their views on various issues.
Steps needed to be taken will be decided after consulting the
party high command. Some issues are required to be placed
before the Coordination Committee," state unit BJP President D
V Sadananda Gowda told reporters in the midst of the meeting.

He, however, declined to state the specific issues raised
by legislators by saying "discussions are still on. Only some
have expressed their viewpoints".

Ten MLAs, five MLCs and six MPs, including one from the
Rajya Sabha, did not attend the meeting and a majority of them
had sought permission to do so, he said.

Excise Minister M P Renukacharya, whose induction into
the ministry last month had caused heartburn among some MLAs,
also did not attend as he was participating in town panchayat
polling in his Honnali constituency.

Some MLAs said that a majority of those who spoke
demanded early restructuring of the ministry to accommodate
party loyalists.

The Yeddyurappa Ministry had plunged into a severe crisis
recently with a section of legislators demanding a change of
leadership, but it was defused at the intervention of the
party central leadership.
