Blast at DRDO facility near Pune, six killed

Six persons, including two officers, were killed in an explosion at a factory of public sector High Energy Materials Research Laboratory near Pune on Thursday, police said.

The explosion occurred due to a fire in the propellant processing building of the laboratory, following which two officers and four contract labourers died, an official source said.

A spokesman of HEMRL said that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, but it might have occurred while handling of high explosive materials.

The bodies of the six had been taken to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem, the sources said.
