Akola, Oct 12: Hitting back at Sharad Pawar, chief
of its Maharashtra coalition partner NCP, for raking up the
issue of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin,
AICC secretary and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao
Deshmukh has said the party would fight future elections on
its own.

"Pawar's statements are an indication of his perverseness
as his rally at Delhi was not successful", Deshmukh said at a
public meeting at Akot, 40 km from here, yesterday.

Countering Pawar's allegation that Sonia Gandhi has links
with BJP, he alleged that Pawar had `links with BJP' which has
given him the post of the chairman, with cabinet rank, of the
disaster management committee.

Moreover, Pawar also holds the chairmanship of the
committee to look into the soft drinks controversy, Deshmukh
said adding, "this shows his friendship with BJP."

Recalling that at the time of the recent no-trust move
against NDA government at the centre, Pawar avoided speaking
on the motion and NCP's another leader P A Sangma was asked to
speak. "This is the indication of his (Pawar) friendship with
BJP," he added.

"What the people of the country say is more important
than Pawar's statement about foreign issue of Sonia," Deshmukh
added.
