Congress skirts question on Varun Gandhi

The Congress skirted a question on whether its leadership was in touch with Varun Gandhi, apparently sulking after he was denied nomination for Vidisha Lok Sabha seat by the BJP.

New Delhi, Oct 24: The Congress skirted a question on whether its leadership was in touch with Varun Gandhi, apparently sulking after he was denied nomination for Vidisha Lok Sabha seat by the BJP.
"I have no information. I am not in touch with any such leader," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here when asked if a section of the party leadership was in contact with Varun, son of Maneka Gandhi, to persuade him to join Congress.

The Vidisha Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after BJP leader Shivraj Chouhan became the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.

Maneka, sister-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, is a Lok Sabha member from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh.

Varun joined the BJP before 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
