SC gives CBI three-month deadline to get details on NGOs I-T returns

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted three months time to the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) to provide information related to filing of Income Tax returns by the NGOs registered in the country. The apex court gave the three-month deadline to CBI to gather details on whether the listed NGOs had filed their I-T returns. Cracking the whip on the NGOs, the Ministry of Home Affairs had last month put hold on the direct funding from abroad. The step was taken by the ministry on the recommendation of Intelligence Bureau. The NGOs are now also obligated to inform the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in advance if they receive any funding from abroad.
