New Delhi, Jan 04: Swiss authorities have agreed to consider a CBI request for providing bank details of one of the main accused in the Rs 64 crore Bofors payoff case and Italian businessman, Ottavio Quattrocchi, even as the CBI was preparing reply to counter his appeal in British Supreme Court for lifting the freeze on his two accounts.

Highly-placed CBI sources said that recently the agency
had routed a fresh request to the Swiss authorities for
details about Quattrocchi's bank account which the authorities
had agreed to consider.

CBI had sent a Letters Rogatory to the Swiss authorities
earlier which was turned down by the bank citing the reason
that no details were maintained of a bank account for more
than 10 years.

However, in its fresh request, CBI requested Swiss Bank
to give the salient features of his account which could have
been maintained on some floppy disk or paper, the sources said
and added that the Swiss authorities had now stated that they
would consider this request.

CBI was also preparing a reply to the appeal filed by
Quattrocchi in Supreme Court of the UK against freezing of his
two bank accounts at the instance of CBI.

The British government had frozen his two bank accounts
having nearly Rs 21 crore.
