London: Hollywood actor Ryan Phillippe is proud of himself and ex-wife Reese Witherspoon for having raised their children to be well mannered.

The 36-year-old actor, who has two children with Witherspoon, 35, credits himself for keeping the children grounded, reported Contactmusic. The `Lincoln Lawyer` star, who has 11-year-old daughter Ava and seven-year-old son Deacon, admits things would have been different if they were raised by nannies. "I imagine it would have been more difficult if we weren`t as hands-on as we were or allowed them to be raised by nannies, I think then they would become spoilt. "But you`re constantly educating them, we have two incredible little people that we`ve raised. I`m proud of us for that fact," said Phillippe. The actor said that he and Witherspoon are often moved by their children`s compassion. "But one of the most rewarding things is when they come up with something themselves. My son the other day wanted to donate his piggy bank and my daughter had an assignment where she wrote an incredibly eloquent, well thought out speech about clean water for Africa and she gave it in front of the whole school. Reese and I showed up and we both had tears coming down," said Phillippe who split from Witherspoon in 2008. The actor and Witherspoon separated after nine years of their marriage due to irreconcilable differences. PTI
