What made Ambanis miss IPL finale?

Ambanis gave their big IPL win moment a miss as their kids, son Aakash and daughter Isha had their graduation ceremony scheduled on the same day as that of IPL finale.

Kolkata: When Mumbai Indians were basking in the glory of winning the sixth season of Indian Premier Leauge in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, their team owners - Mukesh and Nita Ambani were miles away in New York.

The `team owner` identity of Ambanis took a backseat, when they had to choose between attending the IPL finale and their kids` graduation ceremony.

Especially Nita Ambani who never misses her team’s matches and is one sure face to be spotted during the matches, was conspicuous by her absence.

Nita’s absence was felt all the more as it was also the day when batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from IPL.

Sachin Tendulkar bade an emotional farewell from IPL on Monday as he along with his wife Anjali, daughter Sara and other teammates took a victory lap of the jam-packed 67,000 capacity Eden.

Ambani’s have howevwe, decided to compensate for their absence by planning a gala party for the victorious Mumbai Indians’ team at their Altamount Road residence.

"They were in a catch-22 situation with the Akash and Isha`s graduation day in New York clashing with the IPL final. Since, it was an once in a life-time thing, they had to fly to New York," a player said.

The players later partied since morning after reaching the team hotel in the wee hours as there were many Mumbai Indians supporters seen waiting outside in the unearthly hour.

The players left for their respective home cities in batches around afternoon, waving a final goodbye to a city which had given them the elusive IPL Trophy.
