Our full coverage on Commonwealth Games 2014 India`s schedule for Day 2 Had he kept his cool in the latter stage of the event, the bronze could have gone to Ravi Kumar of India who was ousted as a result of a shoot-off against Rivers. Ravi started off on a very positive note and at one stage, he was ahead of Bindra. Both the Indian shooters were engaged in an interesting duel. Ravi was in lead after 12 shots but Bindra used his massive experience and went past him in the 13th shot and then raced away to seal the gold medal in style. In the women`s category, even though former World No.1 Heena Sidhu finished a disappointing seventh in the 10m air pistol event, India witnessed a new champion in 16-year-old Malaika Goel, who won a silver medal which was India`s first medal in shooting at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. World No.15 Malaika won the silver with a total of 197.1 points while the gold was clinched by unheralded Singaporean shooter Shun Xie Teo with a score of 198.6. The bronze went to Dorothy Ludwig of Canada with 177.2 points. Weightlifters too continued to impress at Glasgow, as young Andhra Pradesh girl Santoshi Matsa grabbed the bronze medal in the women`s 53 kg category. It was India`s fifth medal from the weightlifting event after two gold, a silver and a bronze on the opening day of the event. Despite lacking confidence, 20-year-old Santoshi lifted a total of 188 kg in snatch and clean and jerk to get the bronze as 16-year-old Nigerian schoolgirl Chika Amalaha won the gold with a total lift of 196 kg. Veteran Papua and New Guinea lifter Dika Toua, who is a mother of two, took the silver with a total lift of 193 kg. In hockey, the Indian men`s team started their campaign on a confident note with a 3-1 win over Wales in a Pool A tie at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. Indian shuttlers also continued their good show as they thrashed Kenya in their final Pool B match of the Mixed Team event to top the group. Jwala Gutta and Kidambi Srikanth stormed past Mercy Joseph and Patrick Mbogo 21-8, 21-8 in just 18 minutes in mixed doubles. This was followed by singles victories by Parupalli Kashyap (men`s) and P.C. Thulasi (women`s) to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the match. While Kashyap overcame Victor Munga 21-7, 21-8 in 20 minutes, Thulasi took only 15 minutes to pummel Lavina Martins 21-4, 21-2. In the last two matches, R.M.V. Gurusaidutt and Pranaav Jerry Chopra defeated Joseph Githitu and Mbogo while Jwala Gutta and P.V. Sindhu beat Martins and Joseph to complete India`s comprehensive win.
