Peshawar, Jan 13: A provincial minister is
believed to have been kidnapped in a tribal region near the
border with Afghanistan, police and government officials said
today.

Naeem Ullah Shahni, Minister for Sports in Eastern
Punjab province, went missing three days ago after he
traveled to Miran Shah, a border town in North Waziristan
tribal region, said Brig. Mahmood Shah, security chief for the
tribal regions.

Police said the minister had been kidnapped, but gave
no details of who was behind the abduction and what motivated
it.

"We have got credible information that some people
have kidnapped him," a police official said on condition of
anonymity.

``We hope the minister will be recovered soon.''

Shahani had apparently traveled to the region to buy
a car. He was last seen Saturday in a car showroom in Miran
Shah.

Miran Shah is located about 270 km southwest
of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province.
