Singapore: A China Eastern Airlines plane caught fire shortly after it took off from Singapore`s Changi Airport on Friday and was forced to turn back, a report said on Sunday.
All 229 passengers on flight MU568 which was bound for Shanghai were unhurt, the Sunday Times said.
An employee from Changi Airport confirmed the incident and said the problem was caused by a technical fault but gave no other details.
One of the passengers identified as Mrs Huang was quoted by the newspaper as saying she saw fire on the plane`s left wing and the pilot made an announcement that they would return to the airport.
"I saw that the left wing of the plane was on fire and was spewing smoke," she told the Sunday Times` sister publication, Lianhe Wanbao.
"The pilot then told us the plane had run into trouble and needed to return to Changi Airport," she said.
The report said alternative arrangements had been made to put the passengers on another flight to Shanghai.
