China on Thursday said it had no selfish interest in the rivalry between India and Pakistan and had made consistent efforts to promote reconciliation between the neighbours.
“China has no selfish interest on the question of India and Pakistan. Over the years, we have only worked to promote reconciliation between India and Pakistan,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi told reporters in Beijing.
“We hope the two countries can solve their disputes through peaceful means and through consultations,” Sun said.
The spokesman went on to say that as the neighbour of both India and Pakistan, China hoped both sides can settle their differences through consultations and by peaceful means, which was not only in the interest of both peoples, but also conducive to peace and development in South Asia.
