Riyadh: A Saudi court has convicted a man of seeking to destabilise security and create chaos in the kingdom and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
The official Saudi Press Agency reported late yesterday that the man was found guilty of "disobeying the ruler" for taking part in anti-government protests and chants allegedly harmful to security. The court says the man violated an article of Saudi law related to Internet crimes and incited chaos by disseminating photos of the demonstrations online. The government did not identify the man by name or provide details about when and where he took part in protests. He has the right to appeal. The court also ordered that following 10 years in prison, he be banned from travelling abroad for another 10 years.
