Manchester: Manchester United’s star striker Wayne Rooney will skip the all-important Liverpool clash this weekend having failed to recover from his training ground injury in time.
The 27-year-old forward hasn’t played for the Red Devils since hurting his knee on Christmas but he was thought to be fit to play the North West derby. Sir Alex, though, confirmed Rooney’s absence in a statement on Friday: “Wayne’s still out. I’m hoping he starts training today in which case he won’t be far away. I don’t think it’s a big issue but it will help him along.” There is good news as well for the United camp as Nani and Anderson have recovered from their niggles and will definitely feature in Sunday’s encounter. “Nani’s back in training,” added Ferguson, “And will be in the squad on Sunday. Anderson has been back in training for 10 days so he’ll be in the squad on Sunday. All in all, we’re in a healthy situation.” Manchester United take on arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford this Sunday for the early afternoon kick-off.
