Chakravarthi loses singles quarters, runners-up in doubles

New Delhi: Veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi could not progress beyond quarter-finals in the singles and ended
runners-up in the women`s doubles event of the USD 10,000 ITF tournament in Kuchings, Malaysia. Chakravarthi, only surviving Indian in the singles, lost her last-eight contest 5-7, 0-6 to her doubles partner Elodie Rogge-Dietrich of France. She later reached the final of the doubles event but could not win the title. The top seeded pair lost 3-6, 2-6 to second seeds Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia and Sabina Sharipova of Uzbekistan in the summit clash. Chakravarthi and Sania Mirza had won the bronze medal in the women`s doubles event of the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Earlier, Rishika Sunkara, Sowjanya Bavisetti, Nimisha Mohan and Kanika Vaidya had lost at different stages in the singles event. PTI
