Centre releases Rs 40,000 cr to states as back-to-back loan for GST shortfall

Centre has front loaded the release of assistance under the back-to-back loan facility with more than 72 per cent of the total estimated shortfall for the entire year of Rs 1.59 lakh crore being released so far The 43rd GST Council meeting on May 28, 2021 had decided that the central government would borrow Rs 1.59 lakh crore in 2021-22 and release it to states and UTs All eligible states and UTs (with legislature) have agreed to the arrangements of funding of the compensation shortfall under the back-to-back loan facility.
