Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal directs releasing of funds to help the storm affected

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed the revenue and disaster management department to release funds for providing relief to people affected by the recent storm that hit several districts in the state.

He also directed the water resource department to repair all broken and damaged embankments by March 31, 2017, an official release said here.

The chief minister chairing a review meeting of water resource department urged people to cooperate for timely completion of all schemes of the department.

He also directed deputy commissioners to keep funds ready for providing timely relief during this year's floods and instructed the water resource department to take all precautionary measures besides swift action during floods.

Sonowal also directed the revenue and disaster management department to release funds for quick relief action during floods.

The department officials apprised him that five out of 98 schemes have been completed and work is on for completing the rest.

Rs 203.56 crore has been allotted for the schemes, they said.

The department informed that during the current year the target is to repair 14.772 km of embankments, restore 165.009 km affected by erosion and strengthen 47.758 km of aging embankments.

They said 70 schemes will cover breach closing works of embankments at Muwamari (Morigaon), Angarjur (Cachar), Gagalmari (Barpeta) and Pakakhata (Bongaingaon), the release added.
