The 'Dream Girl' of Bollywood who has managed to impress the viewers with her phenomenal performances on the big screen turns 70 today. Showing up in several movies during the course of her acting career, portraying innumerable characters, she has imprinted a mark on the hearts of the audience. She was the top actress of her era, ruling the hearts of her admirers. 

In 1963, she made her acting debut in the Tamil film 'Ithu Sathiyam'. The gorgeous actress, a BJP member of Parliament is running a smooth political career at present. On the occasion of her 70th birthday, we list her top 6 blockbuster movies.

 

 

Johny Mera Naam (1970)

The blockbuster crime-action film starring Dev Anand, Pran and Hema Malini was the highest grossing Bollywood film of the 1970s. It revolves around two brothers, Mohan and Sohan, sons of a police inspector. Mohan (Pran) slaughters the murderer of his father and goes missing. Years later Sohan (Dev Anand) goes on to become a CID officer, finding the criminal and wooing Rekha (Hema Malini) in the process.

 

 

Seeta Aur Geeta (1972)

The Bollywood comedy-drama Seeta Aur Geeta revolves around two identical twins, who were separated after their birth and grow up to become individuals having antithetical temperaments. The movie inspired from Dilip Kumar's, Ram Aur Shyam, stars Hema Malini is dual roles of Seeta and Geeta. The movie subverted the stereotypical concept by portraying the heroine Hema Malini, as a 'Hero'.

 

 

Sholay (1975)

Sholay is considered one of the best classics in Indian cinema, starring the legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra as Jai, Veeru, Hema Malini as Basanti and Amjad Khan as the iconic Gabbar Singh. This masterpiece was titled as the 'Best Film of Fifty Years' by the judges of the 50th Filmfare Awards. Basanti (Hema Malini), is portrayed as a feisty, talkative young woman who makes her living by driving a horse-cart

 

 

Dream Girl (1977)

The movie featuring Hema Malini, Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra and Prem Chopra gave the title 'Dream Girl' to the star actress. Revolving around a young woman (Hema Malini), who plays five different characters in the film – Sapna, Padma, Champabai, Dreamgirl, and Rajkumari, to steal money in order to maintain a home for orphans, was a hit at the Box Office. The song 'Dream Girl' became evergreen.

 

 

Satte pe Satta (1982)

The Hindi action comedy film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini among others, and is an adaptation of the American musical film 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'. 'Satte Pe Satta' is the story of seven orphaned, unsophisticated and uneducated brothers living on a large farmhouse. A sequence of events leads Ravi (Amitabh Bachchan) to fall in love with a nurse named Indu (Hema Malini) and deceiving her by lying about his brothers to marrying him. Later, the other six brothers also fall in love with other women. The villain Ranjit Singh (Amjad Khan) strifes after possession of the ancestral property but later stands defeated.

 

 

Baghban (2003)

The emotionally charged up drama 'Baghban', directed by Ravi Chopra, featured our favourite actors Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Salman Khan in leading roles. The film was highly acclaimed for the chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, becoming one of Chopra's biggest hits.
Hema Malini's best on-screen pairing was with hubby Dharmendra and megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
