New EcoSport launched with more powerful diesel variant

Ford has launched an updated version of its hot-selling EcoSport compact SUV. The new, more powerful iteration looks nearly identical to its predecessor with several minor internal and external updates. Prices start at Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Ford EcoSport has been one of the most successful compact SUV in the country thanks to its handy size, competitive price point and unique design. In a further attempt to keep its huge fan following satiated, the American brand has launched an updated version of the EcoSport in India.

The new version of the EcoSport looks identical to the outgoing version as most of its changes are minor. The headlamps get LED guide-light strips whereas sitting below each are chrome encased daytime running fog lamps. Besides these slight changes, the exterior remains pretty much untouched. Despite the lack of any noticeable visual differences between the old and new, the newer version does possess a bigger arsenal of gadgetry like rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and an electro-chromic anti-glare rear view mirror. On the inside, the new-look EcoSport sports bits of chrome on the door handles, instrument cluster and window switches whereas the steering wheel and handbrake leaver are stitched in leather. The infotainment system equipped with SYNC with AppLink is carried forwards from the previous car.

However the biggest update lies under the car’s hood. The new EcoSport’s 1.5-litre TDCi diesel mill now makes 100PS of power while returning an efficiency figure of 22.27kmpl.The two petrol engines, the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost that makes 125PS of power and the 1.5-litre TiVCT that makes 112PS of power, remain unchanged. Only the 1.5-litre petrol Titanium variant is available with a 6-speed Powershift automatic gearbox while all other models equipped with 5-speed manual gearboxes. Additionally, Ford has also announced a new trim level called Trend+ which will be available with a choice of either the EcoBoost petrol engine or the redeveloped diesel engine.

The new-look EcoSport will also be available in an all new Golden Bronze colour and will have ABS and EBD as standard on all trims barring the base level trim. The detailed pricing is mentioned below. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
