Ang Lee couldn`t think of `Life of Pi` without 3D

Ang Lee says his latest offering "Life Of Pi", an English adventure drama, would have been incomplete had it not been in 3D format.

Chennai: Taiwanese-American film director Ang Lee says his latest offering "Life Of Pi", an English adventure drama, would have been incomplete had it not been in 3D format.
"I can`t think of this film in 3D. It may have been cheap in 2D, but the output would`ve been unsatisfactory. Thanks to 3D, I managed to take this film beyond imagination and new possibilities," Lee, who is in India for the movie`s promotion, told reporters here Wednesday.
Releasing Nov 21, the movie is based on the novel of the same name by Canadian writer Yann Martel. Its story tells the tale of a young boy named Pi, who is the only person to survive the sinking a cargo ship. He finds himself on a lifeboat with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger. Delhi-based Indian boy Suraj Sharma plays young Pi in the film while Tabu and Irrfan Khan feature in key roles. Lee says he didn`t make this film as a cinematic gimmick to attract audience. "Typically producers persuade directors to make films in 3D to mint money. However, in this case, I convinced my producers to make the film in 3D because I wanted the output to be visually engaging," he said. IANS
