Incarcerated George Michael ‘to launch legal bid for freedom’

London: Incarcerated George Michael has claimed that his eight-week sentence is "excessive" and is set to launch a legal bid for freedom today.

The former Wham! Star’s barrister Mukul Chawla is expected to appeal at Blackfriars Crown Court for the singer`s release today. He will claim that his eight-week sentence for crashing his 80,000-pound Range Rover into a Snappy Snaps shop in Hampstead while under the influence of drugs was "manifestly excessive". And he will argue that bail should be granted because Michael`s jail term could have ended by the time any appeal is heard. "George is desperate to get out of Pentonville and still can`t quite believe he`s there,” the Sun quoted an insider as saying. "He`s pinning all his hopes on a judge giving him bail," added the insider. George, who has a history of drug problems, has already failed in one bail attempt. And yesterday, as gay lover Kenny Goss visited him in prison, the jailbird begged: Help me get out of here. The couple wept as they met in a private room along with George`s manager and another man.
