Whitney Houston thought she wasn’t good enough, says Kevin Costner

Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ co-star Kevin Costner revealed that the singer was racked with self doubt about starring in the hit movie.

London: Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ co-star Kevin Costner revealed that the singer was racked with self doubt about starring in the hit movie. Costner revealed this as he led the tributes at Houston’s funeral on Saturday.
“The Whitney I knew still wondered ‘am I good enough? Am I pretty enough?” a leading daily has quoted him as saying.
“A lot of guys could have played my part but you were the only one that could have played Rachel at that time. You weren’t just pretty, you were as beautiful as a woman could be -people didn’t just like you, they loved you.” Houston’s famous song in the movie ‘I Will Always Love You’ also almost didn’t come to light and producers on the film nearly chose ‘What Becomes of the Broken Hearted’ by Jimmy Ruffin. “The song ‘I Will Always Love You’ almost wasn’t. It wasn’t supposed to be in the movie,” Costner said. “The first choice was going to be ‘What Becomes of the Broken Hearted’ but it had been out the year before in another movie and we thought it wouldn``t have the impact, so we couldn``t use it. Whitney if you could hear me now I would tell you you weren’t just good enough you were great, you sang the whole damn song without a band - you made the picture what it was. You set the bar so high for professional singers... now the ones who sing your song are young girls like you, who dream of being you,” he added. ANI
