New York: Maria Shriver is returning as a "special anchor" for first time since ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected California governor in 2004.
The veteran television journalist is returning to NBC News to focus on "the shifting roles, emerging power and evolving needs of women in modern life," the New York Daily News reported.
Shriver left NBC in 2004, ending an 18-year run, when her then-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California.
She had been a huge presence at the network before her marriage to the `Terminator` star.
Now she will contribute a series of "special projects and primetime reports" to NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC and NBC Sports, the network announced Tuesday.
She has also been named editor-at-large for stories on women across NBC`s digital properties.
With Tuesday`s announcement, she becomes one of the first high-level broadcast news journalists assigned specifically to report on women`s issues.
"I`ve always believed that television can inspire and elevate humanity, and that`s my mission with this new partnership," she said in a statement.
