Kolkata: Stressing on the importance of "reinvention", ace filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt Friday said that erotic noir cinema is "passe" and "past forward" is his new mantra of making films.
"Continuous reinvention is the game. Law of reinvention is that you cannot dizzying successes of past become an albatross and weigh you down but when you touch the peak that`s when the descent begins.
"So with `Raaz` we realise we have hit a peak so that`s the end of that kind of cinema. The erotic noir cinema is passe; so the recipe now we are using is `past forward` . I am going back to the past to go forward. That`s what Spielberg did," Bhatt said at an interactive session organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Bhatt, critically acclaimed for directing films like ‘Saaraansh’, ‘Arth’ and ‘Zakhm’, has made a name for himself by writing story and screenplay for erotic noir movies such as ‘Jism’ and ‘Jism 2’.
His next venture as a producer is ‘Aashiqui 2’, a remake of the original which he had himself directed in the early 1990s.
Responsible for introducing fresh faces like Shiney Ahuja and Emran Hashmi, Bhatt said: "India is alive. There are thousands of talented people. What we lack is the talent to spot talent."
"The new people have the passion the hunger and thats what has kept me on the crease 40 years later. In this business its difficult to survive for a decade.I have continuously reinvented myself, I have never been trapped bythe peaks I have touched in the previous attempt," Bhatt added.
