New Delhi: Giving sole credit to the Narasimha Rao-Manmohan Singh combine, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that it was only due to this pair that economic reforms of 1991 happened, not because of the Congress.
Jaitley articulated that much needed economic changes occurred not because of the Congress but despite it during an interview with The Indian Express.
He added that it was because of Rao-Singh pair that India could come out successful from the balance of payments problem and integrate with the rest of the world.
He further said that the NDA II government now has a Prime Minister who is very reform-oriented and decisive. The government is working to further open the economy with a series of reforms, eliminate poverty, and create an environment where people pay taxes.
