Manish Malhotra dismisses claim by Ritu Kumar about creating Kareena’s wedding attire

New Delhi: A few weeks ago, veteran fashion designer Ritu Kumar had spoken, at length, in an interview to the media about how she had taken upon herself the task to recreate Sharmila Tagore wedding lehenga for Kareena Kapoor’s wedding ceremony. The designer also presented a sketch of her restoration work to prove her point. Now, the whole matter has taken a U-turn as Kareena’s close friend and designer Manish Malhotra has refuted Kumar’s claims by saying that it is he who would be designing for Kareena’s wedding functions; be it the main wedding or the reception. Manish even said that his factory workers have been working painstakingly to restore Sharmila’s old wedding lehenga for Bebo’s nikaah. He also wondered how “someone else (Ritu Kumar) can claim to be doing it. That would not be right.” When Ritu Kumar was contacted, she simply replied that she won’t comment on the matter and only the concerned families are best to seek the answers from. Manish Malhota, who is taking the Saif-Kareena marriage as seriously as of his own family, is also designing Karisma Kapoor’s dresses for the marriage functions. On the other hand, Saif Ali Khan will don well-tailored suits by designer Raghavendra Rathore.
