When police told the 52-year-old actress that a naked man had been spotted lurking around on her land, she was horrified. She was even more horrified when she realised that the intruder was none other than her. The Oscar-winner enjoys a spot of skinny-dipping in a nearby river whenever she stays at the holiday cottage. As she quickly made her way back through a field, she must have been spotted by a passerby, who sounded the alarm – reporting a male imposter. After clearing up the confusion, with red faces all round, Thompson said that she was tempted to strip off for the officer who came to warn her – to prove that her figure wasn’t really “that bad”. The actress and screenwriter recalled the policeman’s visit, which took place last summer, in an interview for the Jonathan Ross Show. “He said, ‘We’ve just had someone ring up to say that you’ve had an intruder on your land,” the Daily Mail quoted Thompson as saying. “There was a dog walker, coming up through the path, who saw a naked man, about 50 years old, coming through your field,” she said. Thompson said that she imagined a “naked axe-man” hiding in the bushes – but the case was cracked quickly by her 11-year-old daughter. “From behind me on the stairs, Gaia, in her PJs, was going, ‘Wasn’t that about the time that you came up from the river, mum?’ “Behind the house there’s a field and a pond. “There are sheep in the field, but they don’t mind if I walk up naked. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, oh my God’. Making the connection, I could see the same thing happening to the policeman,’” she said. She said that as he backed off, she was imagining him going back to the station telling his colleagues about “that Emma Thompson” who apparently looks alarmingly like a man when naked. She said that she nearly lifted up her nightie to show him that was not the case. Thompson and her husband, actor Greg Wise, 45, often visit the retreat in Dunoon, Argyll, with Gaia and their adopted Rwandan son Tindyebwa Agaba. ANI
