Sensex advances 72 points on positive Asian cues

The gauge had gained 259.65 points in the previous session.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex climbed over 72 points to trade at 25,922.47 in the opening trade today, with sustained buying by participants and funds leading to across-the-board gains coupled with positive Asian cues.

Rising for the second day, the 30-share index advanced by 72.17 points, or 0.27 percent, to trade at 25,922.47 as all sectoral indices -- led by metal, oil & gas and realty – were trading in the positive zone with gains up to 1.15 percent.

The gauge had gained 259.65 points in the previous session.

On similar lines, the NSE Nifty was trading higher by 22.80 points, or 0.28 percent, to 7,888.75.

Brokers said a firming trend in other Asian markets following a strong overnight gains in US markets buoyed the trading sentiment here.

The market will remain closed tomorrow on account of Christmas.

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng moved up 0.48 percent while Japan's Nikkei gained 0.26 percent in early trade today.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.06 percent higher in yesterday's trade.
