Third marriage makes Paul McCartney `Brit’s third wealthiest musician`

London: Paul McCartney has jumped from fourth spot to third in the Sunday Times Rich List of Britain’s wealthiest musicians, thanks to his wedding to Nancy Shevell.

His divorce from Heather Mills, mother of his eight-year-old daughter Beatrice, in 2008 cost him 24.3million pounds. But the Beatle’s fortune has swelled by 170million pounds in the past year after he tied the knot with Shevell last October, which is his third marriage, the Daily Mail reported. The US heiress’s 150million pounds stake in her family’s haulage business, combined with 20million pounds from his touring and album sales, the 69-year-old singer is now worth an estimated 665million pounds. It is in sharp contrast with the damage done to his bank balance by the end of his four-year marriage to Mills in 2006. The acrimonious divorce was finalised in May 2008. Despite his change of fortunes, McCartney is still some way behind the man in top spot, record executive Clive Calder, who founded the Zomba Group of record labels and companies and is worth 1.35billion pounds, slightly up from last year. Second is theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, with a fortune of 725million pounds, up from 675million pounds last year. His long-time collaborator, Lord Lloyd Webber, is fourth with 590million pounds, a 90million pounds drop from last year. Victoria Beckham moved into the top ten, thanks to a 25million pounds increase in her and husband David’s wealth in the past year. It gives them a wealth of 190million pounds, putting them in joint tenth place with Sir Mick Jagger and Daniel Ek of the online music service Spotify. Rounding off the top ten are U2 (fifth, 514million pounds); Simon Fuller (sixth, 375million pounds); Simon Cowell (seventh, 225million pounds); Sir Elton John (eighth, 220million pounds); and Michael Flatley (ninth, 192million pounds).
