Seoul: German carmaker Volkswagen is expected to recall around one lakh cars in South Korea following its cheating scandal in diesel emissions, the media reported.
The corrective measures would include compensating local buyers by recalling Volkswagen models equipped with the software that was handled to be in operation only when the models take an emissions test.
About 92,000 units of eight Volkswagen models, including the Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, and Tiguan, are subjected to recall and around 35,000 vehicles of six Audi models including A3, A4, A5, A6, Q3 and Q5 will also be recalled.
Thomas Kuehl, head of Audi Volkswagen Korea, has been asked by the lawmakers to attend next week's parliamentary audit of the transport ministry as one of witnesses along with the head of BMW Korea.
The lawmakers are expected to look into the emissions deceiving scandal for Volkswagen and the excessive repair costs of imported cars for BMW.
