Kidman pays tribute to war correspondent Marie Colvin with latest film role

Nicole Kidman has dedicated her latest on-screen performance in ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn’, to journalist Marie Colvin.

Melbourne: Nicole Kidman has dedicated her latest on-screen performance in ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn’, to journalist Marie Colvin, who was killed while covering the uprising in Syria earlier this year.
Kidman, 44, plays legendary war reporter Martha Gellhorn in the film, which had its world premiere at the Cannes film festival, a leading daily has reported.
The film recreates Gellhorn’s turbulent relationship with novelist Ernest Hemingway. They were married in 1940 after covering the Spanish civil war together. Colvin, 56, was killed in the Syrian city of Homs during shelling by government forces in February while covering the conflict for The Sunday Times. Colvin, who had covered numerous conflicts, had often spoken of her great admiration of Gellhorn. “I really see her as someone similar to Martha. These women are still rare and Martha was the first,” a website has quoted Kidman as saying. ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn’ was directed by Philip Kaufman, and British actor Clive Owen plays Hemingway. Gellhorn was born in St. Louis in 1908, and covered numerous conflicts around the world during a 60-year journalism career. She was Hemingway’s third wife, and the pair were married from 1940-45.
