Treat to watch Ranbir in front of camera: Sumona

TV actress Sumona Chakravarti, who is making her debut with a cameo role in the upcoming film `Barfi`, is all praises for her co-star Ranbir Kapoor.

Mumbai: TV actress Sumona Chakravarti, who is making her debut with a cameo role in the upcoming film `Barfi`, is all praises for her co-star Ranbir Kapoor.
Sumona will be seen in Anurag Basu`s much-awaited film `Barfi` alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D`Cruz.
"Ranbir is an extremely down-to-earth person. He is a fantastic actor to work with. To watch him in front of camera is a treat. He is a very chilled-out person, we got along well," Sumona told reporters. "I have scenes with Ranbir and Ileana, but unfortunately not with Priyanka Chopra. I play Ileana`s friend in the film. Ileana and I hit from day one itself. We bonded pretty well," she said. Currently, Sumona is playing the role of Natasha Kapoor, a rich brat sister of the character played by Ram Kapoor in Balaji Telefilms` popular TV serial`Bade Achhe Lagte Hain`. Sumona will be seen playing the role of Ileana`s best friend and she is seen in the first theatrical promo of `Barfi`. "I was surprised when I saw myself in the first trailer of `Barfi`. It was a lovely surprise. I am happy that people have recognised me from the trailers. I feel my efforts and all the hard work till now has paid off," Sumona said. The 24-year-old bong beauty is not going gaga over her debut role and says the length of the role does not matter much to her. The actress happens to know director Anurag Basu, who she fondly calls `Dada`, as he was the one, who offered her the role. "I have worked with Dada`s younger brother, so that is how we know each other. He called me one day saying there is a cameo role why don`t you do it. Dada has seen my work on television and he felt I was suitable for the character," Sumona said. "I have a small role; it`s a cameo. It is not that Dada told me something else and it turned out to be something else. I am not bothered whether my role is small or big," she said. Sumona is open to do films and TV both, but she insists that she is looking for character-driven roles. "It is not that I want to work with big names, but of course if I get to do a film with Dharma Productions or Yash Chopra Films then why not. I am not looking at doing heroine or main lead roles but I am more open to do character driven roles," she said. "To give an example, I liked the roles portrayed by women in films like `Gangs of Wasseypur` or `Vicky Donor`...These films had fantastic character-driven roles. Also, it is not like that I will do films only. I will take both, TV and films," she added. The first trailer of `Barfi` is out, which completely relied on background score and emotions to convey its message to the audience. "It is not that the film is 100 per cent silent... everyone in the film is not a challenged person. There are characters who can speak, like I have spoken in the film. It is a lovely film," Sumona said. PTI
