New Delhi: While the Aussies displayed a rather spendid piece of batting, blending patience along with ocassional boundaries, the Indians too did not back out to strike some of them down. For the home side it was just Ravindra Jadeja who stood out and showed a ray of hope for the home side. "Its a pleasant feeling getting the three important Aussie batsman down," said Jadeja.
The left arm spinner struck down three Australian batsmen- Steve Smith, Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb, to bring about some amount of optimism among the Indian fans present at Chinnaswamy.
He started off with skipper Smith. A length ball along the stumps and Smith was looking for a defensive stroke, but the ball struck the inside edge, then his pad and Wriddhiman Saha dived hard to complete an important dismissal for the Men in Blues. "Initially the ball wasn't turning from the end I was bowling from. I wanted to bowl along the stumps and go for shorter deliveries. And in the end it worked," he added.
His next victim, young Renshaw, created quite a ruckus for the Indians with his knock of yet another half-century. But Jadeja's clever spell once again bore fruit dismissing the 20-year-old for a stump out. "He was continuosly trying to hit over the mid-off region and he did succeed in that venture when he went for a six. I then plotted a plan with Saha and asked him to stay ready for the ball along the leg side. I first went for an off-side ball, then middle and finally turning it to leg, which got us an important breakthrough."
Finally it was Handscomb. "He too was going for one particular shot- over the mid wicket region. For me, the plan was to place it along the fourth-fifth stump so that he steps out for the boundary shot, which can both end up in a catch out or a stump. Luckily for Ashwin, it was my third wicket in this innings."
"What helped me today was indeed Anil Kumble's advice. He gave me an advice for the left-handers. He asked me to put it along a disciplined line and rather pick up a particular area and hammer along the line."
