Hope to play similar role for Pakistan as Virat Kohli does for India: Babar Azam

New Delhi: Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has been putting a fine display of his batting prowess and was one of his side's better batters in the recently concluded series Down Under.

Azam's performance has often got Pakistani fans compare him with Indian captain Virat Kohli and the 22-year-old also admitted that he wants to make similar contribution to Pakistan cricket as his Indian counterpart does.

“(Virat) Kohli is different and I am a different character,” Babar Azam was quoted saying in a report published by arysports.tv. “I just try to play at my full potential and win games for Pakistan.”

“I hope that I play the same role for Pakistan which he (Kohli) plays for India,” he added.

On being asked about the toughest bowler he has faced, Babar gave the honour to Australian speedster Mitchell Starc.

Hea lso opened up on the prospect of facing one of the finest pace bowlers of this generation, after the two locked horns in the Test series.

“I faced him (Starc) when I played for Pakistan A, but facing him in international cricket was a different story, however I got used to him later in the tour and did not find facing him that tough,” he told.
