New Delhi: It isn't common to see Virat Kohli sitting out fielding duties, but the Indian captain couldn't participate in any of the three sessions of play on Day 2 of the ongoing Test between India and Australia in Ranchi after suffering a shoulder injury on first day.

Though BCCI and Umesh Yadav have confirmed that the skipper is fit to bat, but that didn't stop the medical team from getting an MRI done for the 28-year-old's shoulder injury in a local Ranchi hospital.

The prospect of Kohli visiting a local hospital, is of course troublesome to the managing team as well as security forces and the same happened after thousands of people gathered around the hospital for a glimpse the Indian superstar on Thursday.

With many casting doubt over Virat's batting position on Day 3 following absence from second day's play, the same can be clarified with ICC rule that says, "a player shall not be permitted to bat unless or until, in the aggregate, he has returned to the field and/or his side's innings has been in progress for at least that length of playing time for which he has been absent or, if earlier, when his side has lost five wickets."

However, the clause does not apply if the player has suffered "an external blow (as opposed to an internal injury such as a pulled muscle) whilst participating earlier in the match and consequently been forced to leave the field.

Nor shall it apply if the player has been absent for very exceptional and wholly acceptable reasons (other than injury or illness)."

Virat Kohli's teammate Umesh Yadav had also given his opinion on the skipper's fitness, calling him fit for active participation in the Test.
