Misbah-ul-Haq announces retirement from international cricket, says West Indies tour will be his last series

New Delhi: Pakistan's Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket informing that the upcoming series against West Indies will be his last tournament with the team.

Speaking at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the 42-year-old said that he is pulling the curtains on his international career.

“I am announcing my retirement from international cricket,” said Misbah. “The upcoming series against West Indies will be my last.”

Misbah, howevber said that he will continue to play cricket at domestic level and will continue his cricket activities for a while.

“I will continue to play cricket at the domestic level,” he added. “Regarding when I will leave domestic cricket, I will decide it later.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan made it clear that the series will bring the curtains down on the veteran batsman's international career.

Khan told the media in Lahore that the Test series in West Indies will be the last for Misbah.

"No discussions have been held with Misbah regarding his retirement. However, a consensus has been reached that the Test matches against West Indies will be his last series," Khan said.

Misbah in recent interviews made it clear that he had made up his mind but his wife and children still wanted him to carry on playing for Pakistan.

Misbah, 42, has been under pressure since Pakistan were whitewashed in the Test series in New Zealand and Australia late last year to step down after a long and successful Test career as captain since late 2010.
